‘Gestural’ colour & form
Fox Yard Studio is a safe haven for the creative community of Stowmarket, a quaint and beautiful market town in mid Suffolk. Community involvement and self expression is at the heart of this arts venue. It holds space for meaningful discussions and brings people together to appreciate fine arts practice.
This exhibition ‘Gestural’ colour & form invites visitors to explore different perspectives and layers of meaning beyond the surface of paint or medium. The show presents a carefully selected diverse and captivating exhibition of contemporary mixed media artworks. It celebrates the bold and fluid motion of artists and their craft.
Katie Barnsley’s selected artworks for this show were ‘Dysmorphia’ and ‘Floating Figure’, both bold in brush strokes and primary colours. These are emotional pieces that explore the female experience with passionate expressive movements. Although similar in many ways, the works display very different feelings. ‘Floating figure’ speaks of surrender, a heart opener, yet the surreal ‘Dysmorphia’ describes an inward, twisted and confused emotion. Having these two opposing works exhibited together, helps to create balance.
